Onimusha Tactics, Part 3: I Have Vowed To Kill 1000 Monsters.

Trying to stop Nobunaga and Hideyoshi? Humiliation.

Much like in 2003, this game is a nice respite from all the struggles and bullshit going on in the real world.

I hope everyone is keeping all these Daimyos and Shikanosukes straight!

"We're not!" -Ubisoft

Hideyoshi has a couple of their foes trapped in a castle, and it's up to our heroes to save the day!

He unleashes the menace that is Bi-Gozales. He's Bi a lot of things!

We rescue the castle and gain some new recruits. At this point Onimaru's got an impressive legion, and Nobunaga's forces can't seem to stop taking L's.

In the next battle, Ageha gets poisoned, and we've got 12 turns to save her. It's a little trickier with a timer element.

Here's Onimaru's new move, Shock. It hits foes over several tiles, but unfortunately they don't bunch up very often in this game. When they do, though... it's pretty gratifying to land this on several targets at once.

In a cauldron of fire, we find the next Genma Lord: The aptly-named Balahagi.

"No one takes my belt-uh! I am the Game-uh!"

::music kicks in::

"<somethingsomethingsomething> So let's fighting!"

"Letttt's fighting looooove!"

"Letttt's fighting loooooove!"

"Shubuda shi shi shiii-namo!"

Onimaru has HHH cornered! Just drop the belt, man! JUST! DROP THE BELT!

He's got a lot of minions...

...but eventually Team Onimaru climbs the volcano and chews their way through.

That's another Nobunaga minion down.

...was to find WMDs? Because we were allied with al-qaeda? No wait, it was to bring us democracy?

Elsewhere, Nobunaga's armies are on the march.

Can anyone stop him? Well, yeah, Onimaru's side is pretty much undefeated against Nobunaga. However, Nobunaga keeps showing up where they aren't, racking up wins.

Nobunaga meets with Secretary of Defense Guildenstern and Vice President Dick Hideyoshi, just to make sure nobody's having any second thoughts about having a big ol' war.

Next battle, our heroes form a conga line to attack the Genma troops. There's a lot of this in Onimusha Tactics: Forming conga lines. Lot of bottlenecks, not many wide-open battlefields.

I send Onimaru up front and he basically solos everything while everyone else stands behind him, thus making him even more powerful and more ahead of everyone else on power.

After that fight, Onimaru meets this very Zhuge Liang esque wise man...

...and from him, learns the ability to turn Super Saiyan 3 on a temporary basis.

He actually looks more like the "Super Saiyan 5" from that weird "Dragonball AF" thing.

But regardless, now he's even MORE overpowered, even if it's just a temporary transformation he can use.

I mean, it was in his name. Kinda like Tim Duncan becoming a basketball player.

Now, Onimaru powers up...

...and blasts the hell out of the kindly Zhuge Liang guy!

Oboro is smitten by the Zhuge Liang guy, who is currently stumbling around punching the air.

Why does she have to be so mean to Magoichi?

In the next battle, we get a new party member. It's...

...Kotaro Fuma, master ninja!

"Hey hey let's go kick assu!"

"Taisusetsumono protect my balls!"

Onimaru suddenly Pedigrees Kotaro on a steel chair! My God!

CLANK.

"I'm the champion-uh! Nobody is going to outshine me!"

And right he is, as nobody in my army can even get close to Onimaru on raw power now, especially with his new ability to transform into a literal Oni with Super Saiyan 3 powers. At this point Onimaru can pretty much steamroll every fight, and the rest of the cast is just kinda...there.

A number of games have this issue of "overpowered main character syndrome" where everyone besides the main character is essentially superfluous.
