Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (Playstation 2, 2004 / Playstation 5, 2025)

Here we are, Metal Gear Solid 3, the best game in the series. Going to do the usual MGS-series thing here and give it a fairly light rundown while trying not to go too overboard with spoilers - though I'll talk about the interesting elements of the story regardless.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (Playstation 2, 2001)

With an MGS3 remake coming up and me having done posts for MGS1/4/5 in the past, it seemed like an appopriate time to fill in the other missing one. This game was pretty divisive in its day, but it holds a lot of nostalgia for folks who grew up with it. I always liked this one, and thought it was WAY ahead of its time.

As for why it was divisive... having Raiden take over as the main character was a terrible idea, like selling drugs in the hood without the CIA's permission.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (Playstation 4, 2014)

Time to look at the most controversial demo game of 2014 so far. Is it controversial because of the incredibly dark story, depictions of torture, insinuation that the United States is often villainous, the replacement of David Hayter with Kiefer Sutherland as the primary voice actor, or the short length? The answer is all of the above.

Metal Gear Solid 4 (Playstation 3, 2008)

For 2008 I'm looking at one of the biggest PS3 exclusives out there. The graphical leap between this game and the last few I looked at is humongous, and this game shows off the power of the PS3 better than most modern games do. It also features the infamous Solid Snake, who I suspect smokes marijuana cigarettes. Reefers.

Metal Gear Solid (Playstation, 1998)

Get ready, because 1998's game is one of the most iconic of all time. A year earlier, Final Fantasy VII steered the N64/Playstation war toward a Sony win. That game single-handedly drew the massive RPG fanbase - which Nintendo at one time had a lock on - away from the N64. Sony managed to keep them there by, you know, having RPGs (something the N64, for the most part, did not). Nintendo fired back with the awesome Ocarina of Time, but Sony was ready and countered its holiday release with Metal Gear Solid. Nintendo had finally met its match, it seemed.

The Three Decade Project

For the next little while, I'm going to be embarking on a new project. I'll be doing a post for a game for every year that I've been alive, starting with 1983's Mario Bros. While some of these games are chosen for their historical significance (such as Super Mario 64), others are here because I needed an excuse to play them (such as Fable). Read on for the complete list.
