Final Fantasy Tactics: Five Geomancer Challenge Longplay

Quick post organizing playthrough videos for FFT. The Geomancer-only challenge was a neat idea, but it ended up being pretty messy. First, I take a moment to fondly look back on the awesome cover art. It made a strong impression on me when I was younger, even though it lied about the five-character party. A lot of these battles only allow four characters! Da hell, Square?

PART ZERO - I play around with an old file where I created Final Fantasy IV characters. An aimless session recorded while I was sick, and basically unedited. Not really part of the main longplay, but here it is. CAT SIGHTING at 12:25.

PART ONE - I start the actual longplay by taking on the Five Geomancer Challenge. I mostly tell stories about Gamestop and come up with sexy names for my harem of recruited squires. Lot of setup here, and the actual game gets going at about 23 minutes. CAT SIGHTINGs at 7:47, 9:52, 25:55.

PART TWO - The Geomancer class finally debuts and the game gets going. This is the first episode that's actually worth watching for something besides The Cat. In this one I take out the last few fights of Chapter 1 and max out the Geomancers.

PART THREE - Quieter episode here as I take out the Gafgarion fights and Queklain with my Geomancer harem. It's too bad I had The Flu while I was recording these, but it subsided by the time I got to Part 5 or so.

PART FOUR - CAT ALERT at 3:18. Other than that, another quiet episode, mostly just taking in the atmosphere of the game. Turns out a crew of Geomancers are way better than expected, especially if you stay on stone surfaces to make use of their petrifying AOE effects.

PART FIVE - CAT ALERT at 3:25. Besides Xander being a handsome little dude, this episode is me getting to Riovanes Castle and sustaining a crushing loss with my five Geomancers. At 18:20 I compare the PS1 and PS5 controllers side by side.

INTERLUDE - Xander sneaks in while I'm asleep and fights Velius. He totally messed up my Geomancer-only run to do it, but I'm not going to ask questions. The best episode of this entire thing, and probably the only video worth watching.

PART SIX - I continue with the "Geomancer-Only Challenge" after wondering why Velius was defeated while I was asleep. A glitch, perhaps? Either way, the game continues, after "ending" in Part 5.

PART SEVEN - This one is the debut of the Peckerton Voice, the most annoying voiceover of all time, along with lots of drama. I was really hitting my stride with the series at this point, so it's too bad I only did one more after this.

PART EIGHT - At 22:27 Xander passes through my head. This one is longer than the rest and the purest longplay of all of these, just me playing the game. Noteworthy because I recorded it right after moving into a new place, so that was me walking into a largely-empty room. This was the last video I posted of the game for a long time, but now I'm finishing things off with...

PART NINE - And now I resume the game two years later, wearing CM Punk cosplay and struggling to defeat Marquis Elmdor (no relation to The Marquis from John Wick 4, which leads me to do a Top 5 Action Movies). Where is Xander though? Maybe if he was around, I'd be able to win this damn Elmdor fight! This is the last episode before I give up Geomancy.

PART TEN - CAT ALERT at a minute in. What a handsome dude. This episode is a big one as I take out not one but TWO Lucavi. The Geomancer run is officially completely over at this point, since I had to bring in Orlandu to defeat Elmdor and his two assassins. So it's pretty much just a normal playthrough for this last bit.

PART ELEVEN - In the endgame now. I've got Orlandu and Meliadoul absolutely wrecking everything in sight while the Geomancers wait to get an action turn. And wait. Also, CAT ALERT at 1:50. He isn't doing much. The lad did his part, now he just wants to nap. I ended up splitting this sizable last play session into 3 different videos to be a bit more bite-sized, and also so there would be thirteen episodes. Like moon cycles and periods.

PART TWELVE - In this one, I face The Wrath of Barich. This ended up being the toughest fight in the game, a knock-down drag-out brawl for the ages. A real chess match of a fight, which made for what is probably a video worth seeing. It's weird because I've never struggled with him on any other playthrough of the game.

PART THIRTEEN - And here I just kinda finish things off. The last few fights were nothing compared to The Wrath of Barich.
